“Be My Fitness Wingman” Facebook Contest

Here’s a fun contest that I’ve wanted to do for SO long. As you know, fitness is something that is very important to me. It’s also a great way to boost confidence. Having a healthy body means having a healthy mind. But, in a world filled with excuses, we always try to convince ourselves why we can’t workout or get a membership at a gym.

“The gym is too far from my house.”

“I can’t workout at home.”

“I’m too busy to workout or go to a gym.”

“A gym membership is too expensive.”

As someone who has been guilty of these excuses in the past, I understand where you’re coming from. What I have realized is that you make a choice. You either do it, or you don’t. Working out and exercising is either a priority or it isn’t. And it will show. You may not have as much energy throughout the day. As a guy, your testosterone level will decrease and so will libido. You may get a little plusher in places you don’t admire. You don’t feel as confident or sexy as you used to. These should be the excuses you make to GO to the gym or to exercise.

I’ll be brief with my motivational speech and just announce that every month, I’ll be giving away a one-month membership to Revolution Fitness. This contest will be for Boston locals only (sorry, but don’t worry, I’ll have another contest for everyone else later this week!).

So, what is it that you have to do?

One thousand pushups. In one try.

No, actually all you have to do is be a Facebook Fan. That’s it. So if you’re not a Fan of the Wingman, go join now and you’ll automatically be entered to win. A winner will be chosen at random at the end of the month and if he or she is a local, he or she wins! It’s that simple.

So go join the Fan Page and give me a shout out!

If you don’t know about Revolution Fitness, here’s a brief description of why I love to workout there.

Revolution Fitness is located in the South End of Boston. It IS your neighborhood gym. But not only is this gym filled with incredible trainers, instructors, and a friendly fitness staff, there's a ton training equipment that will make your workout unique every time. Programs vary such as CrossFit, RevFit’s unique Dynamic Fusion and their new Helix group class. Inventive training and one-of-a-kind classes are mixed with state-of-the-art workout machines. Members can find everything for a fun, effective workout in a friendly, energetic, and professional setting. This place is the real deal.

And as a bonus, since I am all over Boston, I will hand out one FREE day pass to the gym every day. All you have to do is come up to and say, “Be my fitness wingman.” This day pass will give you full access to everything in the gym, including classes that they offer.

Not bad, huh? Well, let’s get started!

NFL Workouts, Being Pummeled by a Cute Girl & Drinking

So these past few weeks have been VERY crazy and I have only missed one appointment so I feel pretty good about committing to the routine. While I was working with Jason Reese a couple of weeks ago, he had put me through an NFL-style workout that was ridiculously intense but used to cut body fat immensely. It’s supposed to be great for players who need to get back in football shape before training camp. Some of you may ask, “So why would I ever want to do an NFL workout?” The answer is simple.

It’s fun, it’ll push you and you’ll get into unbelievable shape, feeling amazing the whole time.

But anyway, over the past couple of weeks, I have been working with Lindsey. When you first meet her, she looks like a cute, innocent and fun girl. Then you work out with her and you hate her. Well, maybe you don’t hate her. But she’s definitely someone that pushes you to the limit. I am sweating within 5 minutes of training with her and she works you hard from beginning to end. I personally love it. My core is always sore the next day and as much as I hate the soreness, I know it’s what’s keeping me looking and feeling good.

The great thing about Jason, Lindsey and all of the other trainers at Revolution Fitness is that they always have me doing something different. There are two very good benefits of “changing things up.” The first benefit is that you’re never bored when you go to the gym. When you know you’ll be doing something different, it makes you curious and somewhat excited to see what they are going to put you through that’s going to push your muscles. I’d say over 50% of what I have done with them already, I have never done before. Granted, I’m no bodybuilder, but I have worked out in my day and still, there are plenty of exercises and tools that are new to me that I’m using in my regimen, which is great. The second is that doing different exercises and variations of the same exercise actually works your muscles more because you are constantly “tricking” your muscles. If you keep doing the same motion repeatedly, no matter how much you do, your muscles will plateau. By “tricking,” you are giving your muscles an infinite growth span. Both are great things if you ask me.

As a result, I have gained a decent amount of weight (most of it being muscle) and reaching my goal doesn’t seem so out of reach anymore. BUT there is one thing that has been holding me back from really cutting up and making the best of my program.

Drinking.

In this video, I talk about the problems I have been (am) having, why it’s a problem and what I am going to do to fix things.

How Food is 90% of How You Exercise

Before I head out to yoga, I wanted to discuss nutrition a little bit. It has always been the thing that prevented me from really looking and feeling my best. I admittedly just have a severe lack of discipline when it comes to eating well. I am hoping that with the help of Revolution Fitness, I can finally find that discipline and eat better so that I can see the results I want.

By doctor’s opinion, I am the epitome of perfect health. Numbers are exactly where they should be. That’s great to hear since I feel as though I don’t eat as well as I wish I could. So far working with Jason Reese from RevFit, he’s helped open my eyes to proper dieting as they pertain to the goals I would like to get accomplished.

Starting today, he wants me to keep track of what I eat and when. That way, he’ll be able to take a look at it and see what I may or may not be doing wrong. He says that sometimes it’s not what you eat, but how much and when you eat it. He proposed a reframe in how I should ration my meals and I’ll talk about that in a video tomorrow. In the meantime, I took the liberty of keeping my own food log in the first week and as you’ll be able to see, I have my good days and my not-so-good days.

We are going to see how things change once Jason can better help me adjust my eating habits and help me reach the goals I want to reach, which I will introduce to you in a video tomorrow.

As you can see, I am NO expert when it comes to fitness and nutrition. If you have any questions, let me know and I’ll relay them to the RevFit team for them to answer here. Or you can ask them yourself on Twitter. There, you can find Jason Reese, Nina Botelho and Derek Christensen who will answer anything and everything.

Tomorrow's video will talk about a computer program that we used to estimate my body fat and can tell you EXACTLY what you need to do to reach your goals and when you'll reach them.
